facial volume restoration with hyaluronic acid gel

Hyaluronic acid gel injections are administered in the office. This is the least invasive method to restore facial volume. Ater deep injection the product is digested by the body over the course of about one and a half year. Therefore the treatment is usually repeated annually with smaller quantities.
The first weeks light swelling and surface irregularities may appear. If this happens, it is gently remodeled with the tips of the fingers during the first days, in order not to displace the product. After about four days and after a week the doctor remodels the product with firm, digital pressure, when necessary. From then on, in most applications, remodelling can be performed twice a day, until the gel is no longer palpable as a separate volume.
This treatment allows subtle volume corrections without the disadvantages and inconveniences of operations. This can be done for early signs of ageing or other causes of volume loss, as well as for advanced problems. More complex treatments, however, are usually divided into several sessions.

Allergy to hyaluronic acid, more specifically to a very small fraction of protein in the gel, is very rare. An exaggerated body response with redness, swelling and lump formation (granuloma) has been described, but it is also very rare.
The lower eyelids are sensitive to long lasting swelling. Therefore this area is treated in small steps and with the greatest care. An enzyme, hyaluronidase, can be injected to locally dissolve the gel.

Volume corrections are most often performed on the lateral aspect of the eyebrows, the temples, the cheekbones, under the nose wings and the lips, the chin, and the jaw line.
