wrinkle filling
Wrinkles can be treated by injection with fillers. This is a good option for vertical grooves in the lips. The "marionette" lines (vertical lines at the corners of the mouth) and the smiling wrinkles around the mouth can be injected as well. Other skin retractions, e.g. by scar formation or acne can be filled too. Wrinkle filling does not affect facial expression. Therefore it is a good option where botulinum toxin cannot be used.
Fillers can be biodegradable (the body can digest it slowly) or permanent. When permanent fillers become infected through the skin pores they sometimes have to be surgically removed. Displacement of filling material has also been described. Therefore I prefer to use biodegradable fillers. Hyaluronic acid gel (trademarks: Restylane, Hylaform) has taken over the first place amongst wrinkle fillers from collagen. It does not need allergy testing.
The injections are given in the office without or under local anaesthesia. Sauna and tanning should be postponed for a week. There are no other limitations to activities after the treatment.
